The Healthy Aging\u00ae editorial team spent several days in New York City at the Javits Center where we served as one of the official media partners of The New York Times Travel Show.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of visitors flocked to the show searching for their next trip, and we looked forward to 2020 as another great active travel season. We were on hand to share ideas about amazing destinations such as the Canary Islands, Spain, Tanzania, dude ranches, spas, hiking trips, and, yes, China.<\/p>\n<p>Little did we know that the Javits Center would soon be turned into an auxiliary hospital for patients potentially recovering from COVID-19, which was sweeping the world, nor did we expect that many of our favored tourist destinations\u2014including Spain, Italy, and China\u2014would soon be closed to tour operators and individual travelers.<\/p>\n<p>Week by week, all of us saw changes in our world as we sheltered in place. Hearing that we older folks (don\u2019t call us \u201cold\u201d!) might be the most vulnerable, we all followed the rules. We thought it would be only a few weeks. It turned into months.<\/p>\n<p>The anguish grew over seeing the number of COVID-19 cases climb every day. Our hearts have gone out to families of lost loved ones and to those who had to suffer through the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Who would have thought that toilet paper and paper towels would suddenly be scarce, grocery stores would slap one-way arrows on the floors of the aisles and Plexiglas on the checkout lanes, and disinfectant would be sprayed on the conveyor belts between every customer? Six hours on a cramped plane to Europe? Forget about it. That was over for now.<\/p>\n<p>So, the content that we had planned for the spring issue had to be completely revamped. We decided that we did not want to focus the next magazine editorial on COVID-19 statistics, precautions, and new rules. You can find those everywhere\u2014accurate or not.<\/p>\n<p>The mission of Healthy Aging\u00ae has been and always will be to offer inspirational, informative content to help everyone move forward mentally, socially, physically, and financially. We have made that effort for this issue and hope you will enjoy the content.<\/p>\n<p>As we all move forward in getting back to some sort of normalcy, at Healthy Aging\u00ae, we plan to continue offering features about how to maintain your health through articles on diet, exercise, and mental well-being.<\/p>\n<p>And as the restrictions on getting out loosen, active travel will once again become a focus in the weeks to come on our website and in the next issue. We\u2019ll have tips and suggestions on the safest and most interesting places to visit as restrictions lift.<\/p>\n<p>For now, stay safe and positive. And if you are still staying close to home, tune up that bike, order a pair of running shoes, and commit to a home exercise regimen.
