{"id":15998,"date":"2025-01-23T14:49:38","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T14:49:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/uncategorized\/publisher-letter-fall-2024-2\/"},"modified":"2025-01-24T12:25:42","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T12:25:42","slug":"publisher-letter-winter-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/winter-2025\/publisher-letter-winter-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter from the Publisher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><span class=\"dropcap\">J<\/span>ust before publishing the Winter 2025 Healthy Aging\u00ae Magazine, we learned from Dr. Laura Gabayan, the author of the article\u00a0<em>&#8220;How Common Wisdom Can Increase Joy, Happiness, and Success&#8221; in this issue,<\/em> that she lost her home in the Pacific Palisades fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In her article, Dr. Gabayan shares her thoughts on \u201cwisdom,\u201d which she defines a<em>s <\/em>a state of being and having peace and happiness. She says wisdom is made up of eight elements: Resilience, Kindness, Positivity, Spirituality, Humility, Tolerance, Creativity, and Curiosity.<\/p>\n<p>She believes her resilience, based on her research, is getting her through this tragedy. Dr. Gabayan told us,\u00a0<em>\u201cAnd as one of the thousands of people who sadly lost their homes in the recent Pacific Palisades wildfire in Los Angeles, I learned that these elements of wisdom aren\u2019t just concepts; they\u2019re lifelines. In times of upheaval, it\u2019s essential to focus on the wisdom of taking things one step at a time. Whether you\u2019ve suffered losses from a wildfire, earthquake, mudslide, hurricane, flood, or other life challenges, it\u2019s important to take time to reflect, prioritize your self-care, and find inner strength. I\u2019m grateful to have these skills as I navigate the uphill journey of rebuilding our lives, and hope they can help you, too.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can read her article here: <a href=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/winter-2025\/how-common-wisdom-can-increase-joy-happiness-and-success\/\">Healthy Aging Magazine | How Common Wisdom Can Increase Joy, Happiness, and Success<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gabayan\u2019s message of hope, the importance of resilience, and looking forward is very much a part of the ongoing message we weave through Healthy Aging\u00ae Magazine content.<\/p>\n<p>The issue&#8217;s cover feature story, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/winter-2025\/tom-chapin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hymns Through the Generations<\/a>, <\/em>written by Michael Chauner, is about Tom Chapin, a Grammy-award-winning singer\/composer who has touched our lives professionally and personally over many years.<\/p>\n<p>I first met Tom in 1992 at the Westport Country Playhouse, Westport, CT, with my two sons, then six and seven years old. We were subscribers to the playhouse\u2019s children\u2019s theater. Tom wowed us with his \u201ckid-friendly and parent-safe\u201d singalongs that he said he created \u201cto combat the boredom (and sometimes anguish) of never-ending drives with the whole family.\u201d\u00a0We took him up on that with a stack of CDs we listened to on the three-and-a-half-hour car ride we took to Vermont on many a weekend.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Tom came back into our lives when I produced a public television special, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/healthy-aging-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Healthy Aging\u00ae\u2026 Redefining America.<\/em><\/a> &#8221; This documentary feature featured Tom, a special song he created (\u201cI\u2019m Half of 100\u201d), and a music score by his brother, Steve Chapin. Tom guided the viewer through upbeat, inspirational profiles of middle-aged Americans, at that time baby boomers, who were finding ways to deal with what lay ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fast-forward to today: Tom is still going strong and about to celebrate his 80th (yes, 80th!) birthday. We share news of his two new projects and look forward to his birthday celebration!<\/p>\n<p>The Winter Issue also focuses on active travel in part to coincide with Healthy Aging\u00ae\u2019s role as one of the official media partners of The New York Travel and Adventure Show. Tom will join us at the show for a special appearance, which we are very excited about!<\/p>\n<p>At the show, we will also be celebrating active travel ideas in places such as Spain, where we have explored many times over the past ten years and have a particular love.<\/p>\n<p>This issue offers much inspiration, with informative, upbeat articles on mental wellness, saying no to classic \u201cretirement,\u201d physical fitness, and, of course, cooking.<\/p>\n<p>As we look forward to warmer weather, which can\u2019t come soon enough!, we hope you will be as inspired by the articles in this latest issue as we have been putting them together for you.<\/p>\n<p>We hope you will enjoy and be inspired by the many articles in the Winter 2025 issue of Healthy Aging\u00ae Magazine!
