{"id":17384,"date":"2026-05-08T10:24:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T10:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/uncategorized\/spicy-seafood-salad-2\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T12:50:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T12:50:42","slug":"holy-basil-chicken-fried-rice-with-fried-egg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/recipe\/holy-basil-chicken-fried-rice-with-fried-egg\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy Basil Chicken Fried Rice with Fried Egg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p class=\"back-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/spring-summer-2026\/from-veracruz-to-thailand-cookbooks-worth-savoring\/\">Back to Food Article<\/a><\/p><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17327 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Holy-Basil-Chicken-Fried-Rice-with-Fried-Egg600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Holy-Basil-Chicken-Fried-Rice-with-Fried-Egg600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/healthyaging.net\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Holy-Basil-Chicken-Fried-Rice-with-Fried-Egg600-300x294.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"recipe-card\"><\/p>\n<h3>Holy Basil Chicken Fried Rice with Fried Egg\n(Kao Pad Gaprao Gai Kai Dao)<\/h3>\n<p class=\"servings\">Makes 2 servings<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>6 oz (170 g) ground chicken, or another ground meat<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon soy sauce<\/li>\n<li>Neutral oil, for frying<\/li>\n<li>2 large eggs, room temperature 2 Tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil<\/li>\n<li>2\u20133 cloves (10\u201315 g) garlic, chopped<\/li>\n<li>2\u20135 Thai chilies, finely chopped, to taste<\/li>\n<li>5 long beans, cut in 1\/2-inch (1.2 cm) pieces on a bias<\/li>\n<li>1 spur chili or 1\/4 red bell pepper, short julienned<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups (225 g) cooked rice<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 cup (15 g) holy basil, Thai basil, or regular basil leaves<\/li>\n<li>Fish Sauce &amp; Chilies Condiment, for serving (optional, p. 230)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Sauce<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Tbsp (15 ml) oyster sauce<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp (10 ml) soy sauce<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp fish sauce<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp seasoning sauce, such as Golden Mountain or Maggi<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp black soy sauce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Heat the 2 Tbsp (30 ml) of oil in a wok or a large saut\u00e9 pan over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and Thai chilies; stir until the garlic starts to turn golden brown.<\/p>\n<p>Add the chicken and cook until it is 70% done. Add the long beans, onion, and spur chili; toss to mix well. Add the rice, followed by the sauce and sugar. Toss until the rice is evenly coated in the sauce, pressing down on any rice lumps to break them apart.<\/p>\n<p>When the sauce has been absorbed completely (the rice should look dry), turn off the heat and stir in the basil just until it is incorporated. Taste and adjust the seasoning.<\/p>\n<p>Transfer to a plate, top with one fried egg per portion, and serve with prik nam pla on the side.
