According to the National Diabetes Statistics Report provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than 13 million people within the 45 to 64 age range have it and more than 25 percent of those 65 years and older do, too.<\/p>\n<p>Here are more facts about diabetes shared by the CDC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diabetes can be treated and managed by healthful eating, regular physical activity, and medications to lower blood glucose levels.<\/li>\n<li>Another critical part of diabetes management is reducing cardiovascular disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high lipid levels, and tobacco use. Patient education and self-care practices also are important aspects of disease management that help people with diabetes stay healthy.<\/li>\n<li>People with type 1 diabetes must have insulin delivered by injection or a pump to survive.<\/li>\n<li>Many people with type 2 diabetes can control their blood glucose by following a healthy meal plan and a program of regular physical activity, losing excess weight, and taking medications.<\/li>\n<li>Medications for each individual with diabetes will often change during the course of the disease. Insulin also is commonly used to control blood glucose in people with type 2 diabetes.<\/li>\n<li>Blood glucose control reduces the risk of developing the eye, nerve, and kidney complications of diabetes. Hypoglycemia or low blood glucose is a complication of diabetes treatment with insulin or certain oral medications that can have serious consequences such as seizures, unconsciousness, or death.<\/li>\n<li>Older patients with type 2 diabetes and children with type 1 diabetes are at particularly high risk for adverse outcomes associated with hypoglycemia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Meal planning for the diabetic diet is always a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to present new ideas for the diabetic menu, cookbook author Corinne Trang has written the new book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1580405495\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1580405495&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=healagin09-20&amp;linkId=07f920db93ec9e2d41898faed4dd2369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Switch It Up, A Fresh Take on Quick and Easy Diabetes-Friendly Recipes for a Balanced Life<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The biggest challenge facing most people is how to get creativity and diversity into their diet, particularly when they are preparing daily meals.
