Grab your popcorn, or a full meal if you have a dinner movie theater near you and check out some of these new releases:<\/p>\n<h3>Father Figures<\/h3>\n<p>In the Alcon Entertainment comedy \u201cFather Figures,\u201d Owen Wilson (\u201cThe Grand Budapest Hotel,\u201d \u201cWedding Crashers\u201d) and Ed Helms (\u201cThe Hangover\u201d films, \u201cWe\u2019re the Millers\u201d) star as fraternal twins Kyle and Peter who accidentally discover they\u2019ve been living with a lie all their lives. The kindly man in the photo on their mantle isn\u2019t their father after all, but an invention their mother (Glenn Close) concocted to conceal the truth: that she actually doesn\u2019t know who their real father is. See, it was the seventies, and things were crazy, and\u2026well, you know.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with only a handful of clues, the brothers resolve to find the mystery man in what results in a wild road trip of discovery and revelations\u2014about their mother, themselves and each other.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFather Figures\u201d marks the directorial debut of veteran cinematographer Lawrence Sher (\u201cThe Hangover\u201d films). It also stars Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (\u201cWhiplash\u201d), comedian Katt Williams, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback-turned-actor Terry Bradshaw, Ving Rhames (the \u201cMission Impossible\u201d films), Harry Shearer (\u201cThe Simpsons\u201d), and Oscar nominee June Squibb (\u201cNebraska\u201d), with Oscar winner Christopher Walken (\u201cThe Deer Hunter\u201d), and Oscar nominee Glenn Close (\u201cAlbert Nobbs,\u201d \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy\u201d) as Kyle and Peter\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n<h3>Red Sparrow<\/h3>\n<p>The upcoming spy thriller Red Sparrow &#8212; which reunites Jennifer Lawrence with her Hunger Games franchise helmer Francis Lawrence (no relation) &#8212; is based on the book of the same name by former CIA officer Jason Matthews. The story follows Dominika Egorova, a former prima ballerina who is drafted against her will to become a &#8220;sparrow,&#8221; a trained seductress in the Russian security service.<\/p>\n<p>After suffering a career-ending injury, Dominika&#8217;s future looks uncertain. She needs to take care of herself and her ill mother but her options are bleak. Dominika soon finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret Russian intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Dominika will prove to be the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. When they discover an old video game console with a game they\u2019ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game\u2019s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don\u2019t just play Jumanji \u2013 Jumanji plays you. They\u2019ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they\u2019ll be stuck in the game forever\u2026(<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sonypictures.com\/movies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Columbia Pictures<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>12 Strong<\/h3>\n<p>Chris Hemsworth (\u201cThor\u201d) and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (\u201cNocturnal Animals,\u201d \u201cThe Shape of Water\u201d) star in \u201c12 Strong,\u201d a powerful new war drama from Alcon Entertainment, Black Label Media and Jerry Bruckheimer Films that tells the declassified true story of the first American soldiers sent into Afghanistan after 9\/11.<\/p>\n<p>Award-winning director Nicolai Fuglsig directed the film, which is produced by legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer (the \u201cPirates of the Caribbean\u201d films, \u201cBlack Hawk Down\u201d), together with Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill under their Black Label Media banner (\u201cLa La Land,\u201d \u201cSicario\u201d). Oscar winner Ted Tally (\u201cThe Silence of the Lambs\u201d) and Peter Craig (\u201cThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Parts 1 &amp; 2\u201d) wrote the screenplay, based on the acclaimed book Horse Soldiers by author Doug Stanton. The executive producers are Oscar nominees and Alcon principals Andrew A. Kosove and Broderick Johnson (\u201cThe Blind Side\u201d), together with Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Ellen H. Schwartz, Garrett Grant, Yale Badik, Val Hill and Doug Stanton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c12 Strong\u201d is set in the harrowing days following 9\/11 when an elite U.S. Special Forces unit, led by their Captain, Mitch Nelson (Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. soldiers sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission in response to the attacks. Leaving their families behind, the team is dropped into the remote, rugged landscape of northern Afghanistan, where they must convince General Rashid Dostum (Navid Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies.
