04 Mar Style
By Megan Monachino
From short shorts to overalls and crinkled trousers—the trends for spring 2016 are pushing the limits. The common denominator between them all: variety. Blurring gender lines and drawing inspiration from the season’s botanicals, floral menswear is blooming this season.
If you’re one for a more traditional look, not to worry—many designers are embracing their roots with classics like men’s suits. The fashions are very much a combination of bringing back the old and making it new, which seems fitting for the season. For the adventurous and conservative, and those in between, there are trends for everyone this spring. And designers, big and small, are offering their take on “what’s in.”
So no matter your budget and preference, between bespoke and ready-to-wear, you’re sure to get a piece of the pie.

Botanicals and Bomber Jackets
Spring brings flowers, spring fashion brings … florals! Yes, men, floral prints have migrated to your section of the store. With shirts available with colorful flowers and black and white plant prints, the trend can be as expressive or modest as your taste allows. Wear under a jacket or paired with light-colored pants, the botanical prints (like in the INC look below) will have you springing forward in fashion.
Bomber jackets add versatility to more casual days. Contemporary and comfortable, this trend can be found in a variety of colors and materials—whether you opt for a lighter material to pair with a sports jacket, or a slightly heavier material to wear on its own. Check out Macy’s private store brand Alfani for plenty of options!
Adding another element to the jacket, mixed-media bombers are stylish layering pieces for the everyday. Kenneth Cole’s spring line The New Modern offers options that will have you wearing this style in no time.
Classics
Keeping with traditional style, single-breasted jackets—especially single button—worn over a sweater of the same color in a varying shade, create a look that’s big on texture. High-quality men’s suits will always be in, with an emphasis on layering this season.
Huntsman, founded in 1849 and located in London and, now, in New York, prides itself on its rich heritage and reputation. As one of the finest and most long-standing, yet often innovative, bespoke houses on Savile Row, their mix between ready-to-wear and bespoke pieces—“made to order” or “custom designed”—makes their dress shirts perfect for pairing with a custom sports jacket or blazer!
Leg Room
The wide-leg silhouette is in for pants. Comfortable and chic, it’s the perfect way to ensure your legs stay cool during higher temperatures! These roomier styles have just the right break to fit with the elegant look of your jacket, without distracting, billowy fabrics.
While pants are getting looser, shorts are getting shorter! The rising of hemlines is firmly rooted in retro-sport-inspired fashion trends. Men are being braver about showing a little more skin.
If you’re interesting in trying out the shorter-shorts game, you don’t have to dive in head first. Test the waters with a pair of seven-inch shorts, which fall just a little bit more above the knee than the nine-inch hemline you’ve been wearing for years. [awesome-gallery id=3075]
Subdued Hues
The warmer months usually inspire an explosion of color in collections, but designers seemed to have agreed on a more minimalistic, subdued palette for this spring and summer. Grays, blues and similar hues are de rigueur! Call it old school, but it’s all about the way you wear it—mixing different shades of the same color.
Huntsman, which has dressed celebrities and royals such as Queen Victoria, Elizabeth Taylor, Alexander McQueen and Winston Churchill, has old school in its DNA and calls for respecting traditional values—remembering their roots as they grow. They’re featuring a neutral pallet in the spring line with lots of jewel-based colors.
The Pink, Slim-Fit, Two-Button Cuff Shirt paired with the Navy, Oval-Spotted Tie is a prime example of how to rock this look.
Kenneth Cole follows suit with sports-centric styles that define casual cool as seen in nylon jackets, knit trousers and tech-ed out tees in subdued shades of black, white and gray.
White Out
For chinos and trousers, white is the new black. The white denim and chino trend goes well with deep navies and blacks. Style with cable-knit sweaters for a take on vintage, cricket attire or pair with other light colors for a classic, clean look.

And Don’t Forget to Accessorize!
Whether heading to work and needing a bag for your necessities or dressing up an outfit with a watch, accessories are appreciated.

Blue or gray sunglasses keep you in-trend with layering neutrals, and a simple, black bag goes perfectly with anything from a pair of jeans on casual Friday at work to your shirt and tie. Loafers, sneakers and sandals can be substituted with each other to kick casual outfits to formal wear and back to casual again.

Shoes, shoes, shoes
Slip-ons, sneakers and sandals reign supreme in smooth leather and suede. Neutral tones work for the everyday—see contrasting black and white, gray shades and rich earth tones—for traditional occasions, monk-strap and lace-up oxford styles in black and brown leather fit the bill.

Minimalist backpacks and sturdy duffel bags transition from work to weekend with ease. Innovative design and a refined color palette allow for versatile styling options with transitional appeal.
