“Best of the Best” in travel media awards announced by the North American Travel Journalists Association
The travel article Discovering Romanesque Art in the Pyrenees featured in Healthy Aging® Magazine has been honored by a silver award in the 29th annual North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) Travel Media Awards Competition.
The article, written by Carolyn Worthington, claimed the second-place award in the online publication category for “60+ Travel.” The competition honors the “best of the best” in travel media.
“The past year has been one of the most challenging and tragic years within memory,” Helen Hernandez, CEO of NATJA, said. “Necessarily, the travel and tourism industries were substantially shut down, and while we are cheered by early signs of recovery, we are all aware losses and challenges will continue to mount for some time.”
“Yet, despite this landscape of loss, NATJA members and others not yet part of our NATJA family made needed adjustments and produced a remarkable body of work,” Hernandez said. “We are well satisfied–though not surprised–to see that the range and quality of submissions have increased. The bar for this year’s awards is the highest we have seen over the last twenty-nine years of the NATJA Award’s existence.”
One first place (Gold) winner is chosen in each of the categories along with 2nd (Silver), 3rd place (Bronze), and Honorable Mentions. To qualify for an award or honor, work had to be published from September 1, 2019, through September 30, 2020.
“We are proud and honored to receive this award and to be included in such a stellar group of travel professionals,” said Carolyn Worthington, publisher of Healthy Aging® said. “It is our hope, along with everyone in the world, that travel can once again be part of our lives very soon. The 60+ travelers will continue to look for enriching and interesting travel experiences. They are not content to go from meal to meal on vacation. Once travel is feasible, the pent-up desire to travel will explode, and we will be covering it.”
The prize-winning article features how choosing art and culture as a travel theme can be exciting, rewarding, and unique. Worthington details her awe-inspiring adventure through the Pyrenees in Spain to discover Romanesque art. She shares her travel discoveries of art, culture, religious history, and European history in Spain’s picturesque Catalonia region.
Included are the regionally unique chef-owned restaurants, artisan food makers, local wineries, and craft beer makers. Resources for active hiking, kayaking, or canoeing along the way will appeal to the active traveler.
