What makes a community a place that can last a lifetime? The photo contest, “Friendly Places, Friendly Faces,” challenged people to illustrate their view on lifelong places. Is it parks, neighborhoods, transportation, intergenerational connections or opportunities for many diverse activities?
The contest received more than 500 entries from amateur and professional photographers from 29 different countries. The grand prize winner was submitted by Sudipto Das, a photographer based in Kolkata, India. The striking black and white photo captures older adults exercising in a popular Kolkata park on a cold winter morning. The contest was conducted by Grantmakers in Aging with support from the Pfizer Foundation.
“We launched this contest to gain insight on what people think best illustrates an age-friendly community. We had hundreds of wonderful submissions that captured different moments among family and friends, and showed how communities can be great places to grow up and grow old,” said John Feather, Chief Executive Officer of Grantmakers In Aging. “The winning photographs tell meaningful stories of how older adults are vitally connected to the life of their cities, towns and villages in many different parts of the world.”
Cash prizes were awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each category, and judges selected a grand prize winner from the six category winners.
