Don’t want to put away your bathing suit after Labor Day? Keep the summer going by heading to Carolina beach this fall. The temps are in the 80s still in September and 70s in October.

Fall is traditionally the time when kids go back to school and adults go back to work. It’s also one of the best times to enjoy less crowds and more affordable lodging rates at popular summer travel destinations. Carolina Beach is great option for those who like a getaway with equal parts fun, relaxation and scenery.

Here are 9 more reasons why you might consider Carolina Beach now.

No. 9: Getting Here is Easy. Carolina Beach is centrally located on the East Coast. I-40 leads directly to the area, which is also served by U.S. highways 17, 74/76, 117 and 421.

No. 8: The Weather is Just Right. The average daily high is a balmy 84 degrees in September and 76 in October.

No. 7: Special Events Galore. One of the things Carolina Beach is known for is its unique events. And fall is no exception with events like the second annual Carolina Beach Dragon Boat Regatta and Festival (Sept. 19-20) and the Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues & Jazz Festival (Oct. 11-12).

No. 6: Plenty of Live Music. Often billed as the birthplace of beach music and shag dancing, Carolina Beach has a rich music history. Places like Seawitch Café & Tiki Bar regularly host live bands throughout the year. You can even check out Boogie in the Park in nearby Kure Beach to enjoy free music by the sea (Sundays through September).

No. 5: Laidback Nightlife. If a walk-in beer cooler, a surfing cow on the roof and a bar made out of a boat have you intrigued, then grab a beer from the walk-in cooler at Fat Pelican¹s. Stop by for a drink and maybe even a bite (locals love the burgers) at The Dive.

No. 4: Craft Beer Lovers, Rejoice. Speaking of drinks, the new Good Hops Brewing offers handcrafted beers, tastings and tours. You can even pick up food and beer pairings for your own picnic. No. 3: Take to the Water. The water temperatures at Carolina Beach remain relatively mild well into the fall, which means it¹s the perfect time for outdoor activities like fishing (Carolina Beach is home to some of the best fishing around in the fall, as well as a number of tournaments), kayaking or standup paddleboarding (take a tour of Carolina Beach State Park with Paddle NC) or surfing (sign up for a lesson with Tony Silvagni Surf School).

No. 2: Nearby Attractions. Carolina Beach shares an island with two of the state¹s landmark attractions: the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Fort Fisher State Historic Site. You¹re also a 30-minute drive from the culture and commerce of Wilmington and a short (and scenic) ferry boat ride from the historic seaport town of Southport.

No. 1: Affordable Lodging. Hotel rates drop in the fall, as do minimum stay requirements. You can book a room starting at $69 in September and even less in October and November.
