Letter from The Publisher

Welcome Fall!

Tis the season for the return of leaf peeping, football watching, hiking in the woods, crackling fires, pumpkin lattes, indoor cooking . . . and our latest fall edition of Healthy Aging® Magazine!

It’s time to recapture that “back to school” feeling and get started on really, really following a healthy lifestyle, lowering stress, and reconnecting with friends and family. It’s also a time to have fun with some short road trips (leaf peeping anyone?) or a day at a fall fair to make you feel like a kid again.

In our fall issue of Healthy Aging® Magazine, we have ideas for all of these topics and more . . .

Connie Chung memoirOur cover feature about the trail-blazing broadcast journalist Connie Chung, who just published Connie: A Memoir, will inspire you.

Chung chronicles what it was like from age 23 in 1969 to start her first job with a local television station to a news correspondent covering some of the noteworthy moments of our time. She lays it on the line with how she battled overt sexism while tenaciously pursuing her goal of being a true journalist. If you were starting your career around that time, you will be able to relate to her often raw dealings in the workplace.

Mo Rocca RoctogenariansCarrying on with our theme that it is never too late to get started on anything, you will be motivated by Mo Rocca, on-camera correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning, humorist, and actor who profiles amazing people who made their most prominent marks later in life in his cleverly written book, Roctogenarians … Late in Life Debuts, Comebacks, and Triumphs, co-authored with Jonathan Greenberg.

Best burger from World Food ChampionshipsAnd, of course, my favorite topic … cooking!

Nothing brings people together more than enticing meals. We’ve got you covered with quick and easy ideas for family and friends. Like, recipes for the air fryer … Did you know you can make spinach and feta phyllo cups in under 15 minutes? Whip up a salsa chicken recipe in under a half hour? We cover the new book that tells you how: “I Love My Air Fryer” – Easy Recipes Book by Robin Fields.

If you are a burger lover like I am, you will love the recipe we have discovered, and is, in our opinion, the best burger of all time. It’s the Bang Bang Double Cheeser.

This recipe comes to us as one of the winning recipes from the World Food Championships and is one of the many recipes in the new book, Burgers & Bacon Cookbook: Over 250 World’s Best Burgers, Sauces, Relishes & Bun Recipes, published by Fox Chapel Publishing, 2024.

Hands down, this recipe for a burger is the best one we have likely ever had!

The burger starts with a grilled mix of ground chuck, brisket, and short rib on a roll and is layered with bacon jam, smoked gouda cheese sauce, arugula, and black garlic aioli. Yes, black garlic aioli … if you haven’t tried it, you will become a fan once you do.

Not only is the burger outrageously good, but it’s entertaining to make with a group. The recipe has several steps, so we tag-teamed to make it quickly and have some fun. One made the black garlic aioli, another made the bacon jam, and another made the cheese sauce.

Not trusting myself to grind up such a delicious mixture of meats, I found a similar mix at our local Whole Foods Market. I highly recommend Pineland Farms , which has a blend of chuck, brisket, and rib pre-shaped into patties, two per pack. We opted for serving the burgers with one pattie topped with the bacon jam, cheese sauce, and arugula.

Woozer!

We hope you will enjoy and be inspired by the many articles in the fall issue of Healthy Aging® Magazine!
